Composition and Content of Section “Interviews” in the Online UK Edition of “The Guardian” (2020)

The article examines the main features of the texts placed in the section “Interviews” of the online UK edition of “The Guardian”. Analyzing the content of the main subsections (“The G2 interview”, “The Society interview”, “The Q&A”, “This much I know”) made it possible to characterize the main forms of an interview, describe the key requirements to its structure. The modern interview mostly avoids the question-answer format, searches for new forms in its performance, design and content. Analyzing the content we have defined four main structural forms of the interview placed in online UK edition of “The Guardian”: 1) profiles (long interviews with celebrities); 2) problem interviews (mostly societal issues are deeply covered); 3) vox pop interviews (short question-answer patterned interviews), 4) monologue interviews which contain only an interviewee’s answers without any comments of a journalist. Each form has its structural basis and special features which a journalist usually follows while working on his interview.
