Demonstration of the Linguistic Phenomenon of "Figures of Speech" in the Texts of the Nigerian Media

The mass media plays an important role in reflecting the life of society and forming opinions. The purpose of the media is not only to inform people about what is happening in the world, but also to help them understand and interpret events correctly. This task in journalistic texts is performed by such a syntactic phenomenon as inversion, which is of interest to modern research. The purpose of this work is to establish the role of expressive syntactic constructions in the texts of English-language mass media operating in Nigeria. The novelty of the approaches lies in the study of inversion through a pragmatic prism on the example of journalistic texts of the Nigerian media. As a result of the analysis, it is concluded that an important task performed by inversion is to make, emphasize the more significant parts of the sentence and the text as a whole, which ensures the impact of the journalistic text on the target audience. By including this linguistic phenomenon in various written texts and oral speeches, the speaker's individual attitude to the subject of speech is expressed.
