Destructive Trends in the Russian-Language Print Media System in the 21st Century Latvia: Sociopolitical and Medialinguistic Analysis

Understanding the processes that influence the foreign Russian-language media space is a significant factor for the implementation of Russia's geopolitical interests. However, the reasons that lead to negative changes in the system of Russian-language media abroad are insufficiently studied. The article examines the destructive processes that led to the collapse of the Russian-language national socio-political press system in Latvia, which was of great importance for the consolidation of the Russian community. The collapse of the Russian-language media system in Latvia was caused not only by the policy of ethnic discrimination, political and economic reasons, but also by the orientation of newspaper publishers to such content models and linguistic ways of their implementation that had launched destructive processes. It seems important to identify both the actual content and related linguistic factors that determine the destructive strategies of the functioning of the Russian-language press in Latvia, which were formed during the global economic crisis of 2008-2009. The analysis of the structure and pattern of the information agenda made it possible to identify the features of the formation and development of a destructive content model. The most relevant methods for this issue are thematic content analysis, genre and stylistic analysis of newspapers. The data on the aforementioned destructive processes are introduced into scientific discourse and can find practical application in the development of the state policy of the Russian Federation for working with compatriots living abroad.
