Abstract

The concept of "friend" (as part of the “friend or foe” dichotomy) plays a major role in the formation of group identity, which is especially important in the period of information wars and armed conflicts. Due to the current geopolitical situation, the representation of this concept in modern media spaces, such as Telegram, is of particular importance. Despite the active study of this concept in political science and media discourse, in sociology and journalism, the features of the "friend" category have not been considered in the publications of war correspondents. The study aims to identify the specifics of the representation of the "friend" category in the Telegram channels of war correspondents, as well as to determine its role in shaping the collective identity of the audience. The following methods were used in the research: discourse analysis, the method of conceptual analysis, the method of contextual analysis, the method of categorical analysis, and the method of reviewing scientific literature. The paper explores features of both explicit (explicit) and hidden (implicit) ways of expressing the category of "friend" and reveals the lexical and semantic markers of this concept. The results obtained expand the understanding of the mechanisms of ideological influence on the Telegram channel subscribers. The research findings can be used in journalism, sociology, and political science courses.
