Grammatical Means of the Emotional-expressive Component’s Represenatation in the English Media Texts

Abstract

The massmedia are the most important institution of modern society, reflecting the key processes of the surrounding reality in the course of covering modern events. The massmedia have a dominant influence on the spiritual and moral state of a person, being a kind of conductor of mass culture. Information is a huge force that has the ability to influence the consciousness of an individual, a group of people, and society as a whole. Changes in the style of communication of modern massmedia are dictated by the need of modern society to cover the maximum quantity of the audience, to correspond to priority brunches, which are characterized by the expression of a huge range of emotions, including modern periodicals. In the research work the specifics of the expression of the emotional-expressive component on the material of the English-language media are analyzed. Grammatical means of expressing emotions are considered of main attention in the work, based on the example of the most productive US newspapers: "The New York Times", "USA Today", "The Onion", "The New York Times". As a result, the authors come to the conclusion that expressive grammatical constructions are a productive phenomenon for US newspapers. The expressiveness of grammatical means is carried out with the help of emphasis; lexically expressiveness can be achieved through the use of neologisms, violation of the norms of compatibility, stylistic transposition. Considering the features of the of expressive means at the syntactic level, the key role belongs to parenthetical constructions that combine insertion constructions.
