The rapid informatization of modern society has an impact on the creation, distribution and consumption of news content. Despite considerable interest on the part of scientists in the topic of the information agenda, questions about the content of modern media news and the reflection of the public agenda in them remain poorly understood. The purpose of this study is to determine the main thematic content of a number of popular Russian media and social media and to compare them in pairs. The theoretical basis of the study was the theory of establishing an information agenda. Comparative analysis and qualitative and quantitative content analysis became the main applied methods in the work. The results of the study allowed us to identify the most common topics in the news agendas of a number of media outlets, as well as topics that arouse the greatest interest among the audience of social media. Based on the results of the work, it was determined that the agenda of the TV channel "NTV" and the network edition "Lenta.Ru " content-thematically closer to the public agenda. The findings expand the existing system of knowledge in the field of the content of the information agenda and allow us to assess the degree of reflection of public news interests in the news content of the media.
