Formation of Students' Value-Based Attitude towards the Fatherland in Russian Universities: Theoretical Aspects

In the current global geopolitical situation, the effective and harmonious formation of the value-based attitude of Russian university students to the Fatherland is the task of modern pedagogy and the key to national security of the state, as well as to social and political stability at present and in future. However, the analysis of existing research reveals a transformation of the value system, the dominance of the material over the spiritual in the student environment. This shows that the content and methods of bringing up a responsible, highly moral person, citizen, and patriot have been insufficiently optimized. At the same time, the analysis of recent scientific works shows that the problem of forming the value-based attitude of university students to the Fatherland remains understudied. We believe that the existing content of the concept of "value-based attitude to the Fatherland" does not take into account all aspects of this personal characteristic. Failing that, it is impossible to increase the effectiveness of educational practices. The purpose of the study is to expand the concept of "value-based attitude to the Fatherland" from a scientific and pedagogical point of view, based on philosophical, sociological, psychological, and pedagogical theories. As a result of interdisciplinary theoretical analysis of scientific literature, content analysis of scientific publications, synthesis, generalization and concretization, the author suggests a definition of a value-based attitude towards the Fatherland, describing it as a personal characteristic reflecting axiological understanding of historical knowledge, a selective position towards the state, towards oneself as a citizen, towards one's civil rights and duties, as well as the experience of working for the benefit of the Fatherland. A special feature of this concept is its content: it has been formed on the basis of broad scientific ideas about the structural components of the value-based attitude towards the Fatherland (epistemological, axiological, and praxeological ones). These components differ from those which are usually discussed in existing research in respect to the definition under study. The results of the research contribute to the development of the theoretical foundations of educational work with students at Russian universities and deepen the understanding of the mechanisms of forming a value-based attitude towards the Fatherland.
