A Value-Meaning Component in Professional Training of Future Police Officers

In the context of the multifaceted nature of law enforcers’ work, requiring a high degree of responsibility, it is particularly important to train specialists who understand the humanitarian mission of their profession. At the same time, an analysis of the current state of professional police training reveals a problem related to an insufficiently developed value-meaning orientation – as a result, the trainees' understanding of professional activity is reduced to solving narrowly specialised tasks out of the context of serving society. The lack of academic research concerning the implementation of the value-meaning component within the higher education system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia highlights the need for systematic study of relevant pedagogical conditions. The aim of the research is to substantiate the effectiveness of and identify the pedagogical conditions for implementing the value-meaning component of the meta-subject idea of the professional police training. The author focuses on the concept of meta-subject idea in higher education, interpreting it as a holistic mastering of the future profession that transcends learning separate disciplines. The article reveals the theoretical foundations of the humanitarian-anthropological approach; it emphasises the importance of developing self-competence as the ability of caring for others as a result of deep inner work on self-shaping as a person and a professional. To evaluate the implementation of the pedagogical concept, the author presents the results of testing the English language textbook designed with meta-subject elements. The diagnostic assessment revealed positive dynamics in the development of professional self-attitude in cadets of the experimental group, confirming the importance of developing value-meaning meta-subject competence in training specialists devoted to their profession and focused on serving the state and society.
