Functional-semantic and pragmatic role of color nominations in the organization of poetic discourse (on the example of E. Pound's poems about women)

Abstract

The significance of the work is justified by the rapid development of the linguoculturological approach to the study of languages, the prospects of research in the field of artistic discourse. The functional-semantic and pragmatic role of color nominations in the organization of artistic poetic discourse, taking into account its linguistic and extra-linguistic components, has not become the object of special analysis, and the discourse-forming function of color values remains insufficiently studied. Theaim of the study is to establish for the first time the role of color nominations in the organization of poetic discourse based on the poetry of E. Pound. The choice of material is determined by the peculiarities of the author's creative method, as well as by the cultural and social processes of the writing works periods. The main trends in the saturation of texts with color meanings were identified, the color scheme of women descriptions and its connection with symbols borrowed from other cultures, changed in the process of their interpretation in the context of American literature of the twentieth century modernism, the functions of color nominations in the structural and semantic organization of artistic discourse were determined. The presented conclusions can serve as a theoretical basis for further research of poetic discourse and color categories in literature.
