Characteristic Features of the Development of Tunisian French Vocabulary on the Example of “Religion” Semantic Field

The article compares the distinctive features of the vocabulary development in the Tunisian variant of the French language, using the semantic field of "religion" as an example. The primary focus is on the influence of the Arabic language and Islamic culture on the formation of the lexical system, as well as on the mechanisms of borrowing and word compounding that arise as a result of intensive cross-lingual interaction. The author identifies key elements of semantic shifts and set expressions that reflect the unique cultural and religious contexts of Tunisia. Particular attention is paid to the processes of adaptation of Arabisms and their integration into the structure of the French language, highlighting the dynamics of linguistic change. The analysis of linguistic data not only provides a deeper understanding of the specifics of lexical processes but also reveals their connection with the sociocultural and historical realities of the region. The study contributes to the research on language contact and cultural interaction in multilingual societies, demonstrating how religion and culture shape the linguistic worldview.
