Sub-Standard Nominations of Human Organs in English and Russian Languages

The paper presents metaphorical models of nomination and their universal and differential features characterizing the functioning of the studied terms in English and Russian sub-standard linguistic cultures based on a sample of sub-standard lexemes nominating human organ heart/ сердце and body part head/голова. Special attention was paid to the linguistic and cultural labeling of these lexical units, the definition of common patterns of national and cultural specificity of axiological connotations, and their role in shaping the expressive worldview of speakers of two linguistic cultures. The work applied a set of general scientific (method of directed sampling, analysis, comparison, generalization) and linguistic methods (descriptive method, method of semantic analysis). The results have revealed similar patterns of reinterpretation in both languages (an organ is likened to an object or mechanism). A universal feature in the nomination of organs / body parts heart / сердце, head / голова is the conceptualization of intelligence and emotions. However, within these universals, distinct national and cultural specificities emerge.
